IT: Virtual Workshop – Astronomy Toolkit 1.0 – Hasan

The aim of this training program is skill-building and training in Astronomy for young aspiring astronomers. The tutorial will be in two parts.
Session 1:
The first day will be an introduction to Virtual Observatory and its tools and its integration with the Astrophysics Data System (ADS). Participants will be introduced to various Astronomy Data available and helped to install and access r visualization and analysis software like Aladin, Ds9, ESASky and TopCat.
Session 2:
The second day will a hands-on session on the usage of VO Tools with Gaia and if time permits HST/SDSS data. Tutorials/assignments will be given to the participants for practice.
Minimum requirements : Basic computer usage skills required. As most of the tools are java based, participants would need access to Desktops/Laptops with any operating system, Windows/Linux/Mac.
Participants would also need an good internet connection.
The workshop will be interactive & hence it is preferable that participants attend and clear their doubts and issues during the sessions. We have conducted similar workshops. Details can be found at:
