The impact of ram-pressure stripping in cluster and group galaxies
As galaxies migrate from the field to groups and clusters they can lose their gas reservoirs via different mechanisms, eventually quenching their star-formation. One of the most effective mechanisms removing gas from galaxies in dense environments is ram-pressure stripping by the intra-cluster medium. I will present the first results of GASP, an ongoing large program studying GAs Stripping Phenomena with MUSE@VLT. The wide-field, spatially resolved spectroscopic capabilities of MUSE allows us to study in great detail the consequences of stripping in the properties of galaxies out to their outskirts. The unique aspect of GASP is that it targets 100 stripped galaxies (including a control sample) in a wide range of environments, and is based on the first systematic search of such objects in the local Universe.
